Workplace wellbeing is shaped by several connected stressors rather than one isolated issue. This lesson explores a holistic approach covering work-life balance, caregiving pressure, financial wellbeing and mental health. It explains the difference between role overload, when demands exceed a person’s capacity, and role interference, when one role negatively affects another. You’ll also learn how flexible working arrangements, carer’s leave and adjusted hours can support employees with caring responsibilities. The lesson examines financial presenteeism and shows how money worries can affect concentration, problem-solving and emotional wellbeing at work. It then considers the causes and symptoms of burnout, including emotional exhaustion, cynicism or detachment, and reduced professional efficacy. Finally, the lesson outlines practical organisational responses: setting realistic expectations, encouraging support, providing financial education, offering fair pay and making conversations about mental health safer and more normal.
