SARETH | First contact with another kind of human mind

What if first contact is not with another species — but with another architecture of human cognition? SARETH is a premium science-fiction universe by Janina White exploring cognitive divergence, first contact, AI-mediated translation, war, diplomacy, law, identity and the limits of mutual understanding. The Sareth are human in origin. But over thousands of years, their minds have evolved to organise reality differently. Humans begin with objects, individuals, intentions, causes and boundaries. The Sareth begin with relations, configurations, trajectories and continuity. They can translate our language. They may still fail to understand our reality. And that difference becomes dangerous. The first contact ends in catastrophe not because communication is impossible, but because both sides believe communication has succeeded. Humanity understands war before the Sareth do. The Sareth understand relationships in ways humans do not. Between them stands artificial intelligence — not as an omniscient translator, but as an interpreter forced to decide what meaning survives translation and what must be altered. From first contact and first war to diplomacy, espionage, law, love, family, coexistence and eventually hybrid cognition, SARETH is designed as an expanding narrative universe capable of supporting feature films, limited series and returning television. At its centre is one question: What happens when two intelligent civilisations can speak to one another — but do not inhabit the same reality?
