ADHD is not simply about being distracted, restless or “not trying hard enough.” For many children, the school day places significant demands on attention, working memory, organisation, emotional regulation and impulse control. In this episode of Early Intervention Matters, I explore practical ways teachers, parents and professionals can support children with ADHD at school. We discuss approaches such as breaking work into manageable chunks, movement breaks, reducing unnecessary distractions, giving clear instructions, providing additional processing time and recognising when a child is becoming overwhelmed. I also explore an important principle: support should not depend on a child being able to behave like everyone else. The aim is to create an environment where they can learn, participate and succeed.
