A heated legal battle erupted inside the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial when a seemingly simple photograph triggered a deeper dispute over evidence, identification, and one fundamental question: what exactly do these pictures prove about the murder of the former Bafana Bafana captain? The courtroom exchange became increasingly tense as the defence challenged the relevance of identifying people appearing in photographs, while the state maintained that the images could not simply be dismissed. At the centre of the confrontation was a photograph showing a man wearing a white shirt, with the defence questioning why the court needed to establish his identity in the first place. The issue became even more complicated when the witness, Mr Mnisi, reportedly said he could not remember how the picture had ended up on his phone. That uncertainty immediately raised another question. If the witness could not explain how the image came to be stored on his device, what could he reliably tell the court about its origin and significance? But before the argument could move forward, the defence raised a legal objection. The defence argued that identifying the people in the photograph had no meaningful connection to the questions the court ultimately had to decide: how Senzo Meyiwa was killed, when the murder took place, where it happened, and who was responsible.
