Over 40 and being told you need to lift heavy? It’s true most of the time, but you wouldn’t want to jump right into it unless you already have a deep connection to your core muscles and correct breathing mechanics. That’s usually where women get injured. Almost every woman who comes to me is already moving, with walking, Pilates, classes and dancing, and almost every one of them comes in with an injury, usually her back. Strength training on a tight body, or a body with a lot of imbalances, is just layering strength on patterns. In this video I share how I train my clients, the layers we build before we go heavy, and why slowing down is what gets you there faster. In this video: 0:00 Why lifting heavy first can backfire [0:00] What I hear from women [0:00] My story and my injuries [0:00] Why heavy first doesn’t work [0:00] How I train my clients: breath and posture, opening up the tissue, mind to muscle connection, progressive strength [0:00] Slowing down to speed up It takes time to build a foundation, but that is how all good things are built, slowly and methodically. Your body is no different. Want to work with me 1:1? I specialize in training women 40+ on Zoom from home (no gym needed).
