Tips and tricks for Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) task 3 for the ligating loop. At my testing center they used braided loops for the Endo loop. I didn't demonstrate with the locking grasper but with that you can actually grasp the end of the foam appendage after passing the loop through and then lock it, then completely let go which makes life easier. That being said I don't think I was provided with one at my testing center so it's likely better to practice with the Maryland graspers as those will almost certainly be available. Update 6/15/2026: Apparently this activity is supposed to simulate a pediatric appendectomy with the endoloop, which is somewhat reasonable but theoretically should also include cutting the end of the appendage then cauterizing the end with electrocautery to simulate cutting the appendix then cauterizing the mucosa to prevent mucocele.
