Almost everyone in Ghana has heard the same simple story about Keta: build the Akosombo Dam on the Volta River in the 1960s, hold back the river's water and sand, and the sea begins to eat the coast. Yet when you line up historical maps from 1913, satellite images and modern shoreline surveys across roughly 90 kilometres of eastern Ghana's coast through 2015, the shoreline at Keta was already retreating decades before the Volta dams were built. Does that mean dams, ports or sea defences have no effect? Not at all. It changes the question we ask: from which single project started everything, to how this coast was already moving and how human works stepped into that motion. From the slow river of sand moving sideways along the Gulf of Guinea, to canoe landing places, fish smoking ovens and riverside livelihoods, to how we read land and water beyond a single site boundary at our inland farm at Aframso, this 5-minute CLICOM film explores what a moving coast teaches us.
