Merina Kingdom becoming a Great Britain protectorate suddenly goes from one of the worst countries in the game, to one of the more manageable ones. You will need to conquer a bare minimum of 10 states in Europe. (Balkans count) - and CONVERT them to Animist. You can do that using puppets too, but they must be animist. Good luck, this was insanely hard to do.
