Six weeks postpartum and I was still bleeding bright red. I knew something wasn't right 🩺
The ultrasound showed a thickened endometrial lining with vascularity — and eventually they confirmed it: retained anterior placental tissue. That was the reason for eight straight weeks of bleeding.
But here's the part I really want to talk about. I didn't want the D&C.
I had no fever. No pain. No heavy bleeding. My WBC and hemoglobin came back normal. So I sat with the question a lot of women are afraid to ask out loud: do I actually need this procedure?
I researched it. I went down a full rabbit hole — medical literature, other women's experiences, Reddit threads from people who said their retained tissue passed on its own. I talked to my doula. I talked to my husband. I asked my doctors what happens if I wait, and what the risks are.
And after all of that, I still chose to have the D&C.
This video is that whole journey — the diagnosis, the hesitation, the research, the decision, the day of the procedure, the breastfeeding worry, the bleeding that came back afterward, and my two-week follow-up.
You can question your doctor without being anti-medicine. That's the thing I most want someone to take from this.
