Is "don’t ask, don’t tell" actually the secret to a happy relationship, or a ticking time bomb? In this video, we explore a common strategy used by those struggling with Retroactive Jealousy: the 'No Past Talk' Agreement. When a new relationship starts, it’s tempting to make a pact to never mention previous partners. It feels fair, it feels kind of romantic, and most importantly - it feels safe. But as a therapist, I’ve seen how this "fresh start" can often lead to a "fairness trap." What I cover in this video: The Fairness Trap: Why dressing up an RJ compulsion as "mutual respect" rarely works in the long run. The Imagination Vacuum: How your mind fills the silence with "mental movies" that are often far more vivid and painful than the reality. Avoidance vs. Tolerance: Why building a "trigger-free" life prevents you from developing the emotional tools you actually need. The Disclosure Balance: How to tell a new partner about your RJ without it becoming a "red flag" or making the jealousy their responsibility to manage. The Goal: The aim isn’t to enjoy hearing about your partner’s past - it’s to reach a place where the past no longer carries a "charge." We want to move from high-alert avoidance to a place of certainty and genuine indifference.
