On November 12, 1996, two commercial aircraft crossed paths above northern India. Saudia Flight 763, a Boeing 747 departing New Delhi for Dhahran, was climbing through the sky. Kazakhstan Airlines Flight 1907, an Ilyushin Il-76 approaching New Delhi, was descending toward the same area. At approximately 14,000 feet above the Charkhi Dadri area, the two aircraft collided. All 349 people aboard the two aircraft were killed. But this disaster was not simply a story about two aircraft meeting in the wrong place.
