Leaving the Stena Line Ferry Terminal at Cairnryan, we join the A77 northbound, following the eastern shoreline of Loch Ryan with impressive views across the water towards Stranraer. As we leave the ferry port behind, the road climbs gently through the hills of Dumfries and Galloway before crossing into South Ayrshire.
Continuing north, we pass through the coastal village of Ballantrae, where the A77 returns to the shoreline, offering sweeping views across the Firth of Clyde and, on clear days, towards the coast of Northern Ireland.
The route then follows one of the most scenic sections of the A77, winding through Lendalfoot and alongside rugged cliffs, quiet beaches and rolling hills. With light traffic and spectacular coastal scenery, this stretch is regarded as one of southwest Scotland's finest drives.
Our journey concludes in the harbour town of Girvan, where the A77 passes through the town centre. Famous for its marina, sandy beach and panoramic views of Ailsa Craig, Girvan marks the end of this picturesque coastal section of the route before the road continues north towards Turnberry and Ayr.
