Aigerim Seilova is a Hamburg-based composer, performer and media artist working across instrumental, electronic and multimedia formats. Born in Astana, she studied composition at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory and multimedia composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, where she is currently completing a doctorate in artistic research.
Her music has been performed at festivals including the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Schwetzingen Mozart Festival and Chelsea Music Festival, and by ensembles and orchestras including Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Mosaik, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. Seilova received the Hindemith Prize in 2019 and was a Leonard Bernstein Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center.
Radiance was commissioned by Vladimir Magalashvili and written specifically for him and for the historic Anton Feith organ of St. Marien, Berlin-Wilmersdorf.
The instrument itself guided the shape of the piece. Built in 1925, the organ has three manuals, 52 stops plus two extensions, its original Celesta (can be heard at 4:45) and two enormous swell chambers containing almost the entire pipework — creating an extraordinary sense of air, movement and glowing resonance.
The piece does not follow a narrative. It grows as a shifting field of energy. Soft tones appear as small traces of brightness. They gather density, create pressure and begin to vibrate through the space. The organ gradually moves toward an intense, almost blinding clarity of sound.
The electronic layer forms a parallel space around it, using Max, analog synthesis and freely composed textures. Several electronic impulses come directly from early experiments made by Seilova’s son, Alan, with an analog synthesizer. These sounds became an important and deeply personal part of the piece.
This video was recorded LIVE at the world premiere of Radiance on 14 December 2025 at St. Marien, Bergheimer Platz, Berlin-Wilmersdorf, as part of Organ · Percussion · Light · Electronics (OPLE).
