This newly restored Chrysler was filmed in August of 2011 and had a mishap beyond comprehension. The Chrysler New Yorker is an automobile model that was produced by Chrysler from 1940 until 1996, serving for several decades as the brand's flagship model, or as a junior sedan to the Chrysler Imperial luxury brand. A trim level named the "New York Special" first appeared in 1938 and the "New Yorker" name debuted in 1939. The New Yorker name helped define the Chrysler brand as a maker of upscale models, priced and equipped to compete against upper-level models from Buick, Oldsmobile and Mercury. The New Yorker was the best of everything Chrysler offered in terms of style, comfort and prestige, in 4-door sedan, 2-door coupe and 2-door convertible. It was originally offered with the 298.7 cubic inch 4.9 L Straight Eight shared with the Imperial, then after the war when the 331 cubic inch 5.4 L FirePower V8 was introduced, the New Yorker was one of the first to offer the engine. Chrysler introduced the 180 hp. FirePower Hemi V8 for 1951. The FirePower Hemi equipped cars could accelerate 0 to 60 mph. in 10 seconds, faster than the Oldsmobile 88 Rocket engine of that time. The engine subsequently became a popular choice among hot rodders and racers. The 1951 New Yorker had a less bulky look with the wheelbase reduced to 125.5 inches, a one-piece curved windshield and rear fenders integrated into the body. Wire wheels were now an option. The Saratoga line was dropped in 1953, replaced by the New Yorker, with the New Yorker redesignated the New Yorker DeLuxe. This New Yorker Deluxe came in a four door sedan, club coupe, Newport hardtop coupe, and this convertible coupe. The convertible had only 950 copies with a base price of $ 3,945. Once a very fine restoration morphed into a disaster with extensive body damage. Makes you want to tear up. But, thanks for viewing.
