Why Japanese Anglers Fish Frogs This Way

Big frogs. Heavy gear. Big splash. Sometimes, that’s just too much for pressured bass. In this video, I fish the Bottomup Scopper Frog on UL spinning tackle from the bank. Instead of power fishing shallow cover, we go finesse. Smaller presentation. Softer landing. More precise skipping into places most anglers can’t reach. The Scopper Frog is a tiny 3g floating frog bait designed by popular Japanese bank angler Kotaro Kawamura. In Japan, this style of finesse frog fishing is well known for targeting pressured bass holding deep inside shallow cover. Most of this fishing is close range, but casting accuracy really matters. Single hand casts, pitching, and skipping become a huge part of the game. This style of fishing really captures what Japanese bank fishing is all about. If you fish pressured water from the bank, this might give you a completely different way to approach frog fishing.
