The Closest Wildlife Encounter of the CDT | Day 61-62

On Day 61 and 62 of the Continental Divide Trail I had one of my best wildlife moments of the whole hike, a moose just off the trail in Wyoming, and then rolled into Lander to pick up a brand new tent. Sixty days in and getting close to the halfway point, it still feels surreal. This stretch was cold mornings in the Wind River Range, 28-mile days, ramen and tuna in a tortilla, and a long hitch into the town of Lander. Waiting for me there was a care package from Ryan with a new Durston X-Mid tent and a new Sawyer Squeeze water filter, which meant saying goodbye to my Big Agnes after 9 years on trail. Big breakfast at the Middle Fork, dinner at the Cowfish, and ice cream to finish. A good couple of days. Over the next few months I'm hiking more than 3,000 miles (5,000 km) from Canada to Mexico through Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico. It's my third of the Triple Crown after the Appalachian Trail and the PCT, and it's turning out to be the toughest yet. Subscribe and come along for the whole thing.
