You paid the airline to fly. So why would it offer you money to stay behind? Some airlines accept more bookings than their planes have seats, counting on passengers who won't take the flight. But when more people arrive than expected, that prediction becomes a problem at the gate. In this WingContext mini-documentary, we explain airline overbooking, the economics of empty seats, and why paying volunteers to take a later flight can make sense. Using an illustrative example of 200 seats and 205 bookings, we follow the numbers from the booking system to boarding. Would you take the money or keep your seat? Tell us in the comments.
