Teeming shoals of Rudd & Roach with Perch & Silver Bream, enjoying Burwell Lode by Cock-up Bridge

Here are delightful shoals of Roach Rutilus rutilus and Common Rudd Scardinius erythrophthalmus with European Perch Perca fluviatilis, Silver Bream Blicca bjoerkna on 31 July 2026, enjoying the clear chalk spring fed waters of Burwell Lode just upstream of the Cock-up Bridge, this reach having been spared the brutal vegetation clearance that had traumatised the fish further upstream - see    • Astonishing blizzards of Roach, refugees f...   and    • Extraordinary swarms of Roach, Perch, Rudd...   The fish are flitting in and out of the refuge provided by the bankside Common Reeds Phragmites australis, whisps of Rigid Hornwort Ceratophyllum demersum, Whorled Water-Milfoil Myriophyllum verticillatum & Yellow Water-Lily Nuphar lutea also visible.
