In Norse mythology, Álfheim is the realm associated with the ljósálfar, or light elves—mysterious beings described in the old sources as extraordinarily beautiful and radiant. The Poetic Edda tells that Álfheim was given to the god Freyr as a gift in his youth, creating an enduring connection between the realm of the elves and a god associated with fertility, prosperity, peace, and the flourishing of the natural world.
This song imagines Álfheim as a luminous realm just beyond ordinary mortal sight, filled with silver leaves, clear waters, living forests, and elusive figures glimpsed only for a moment. Because the surviving Norse sources tell us relatively little about the elves themselves, their world remains wonderfully mysterious—a place where mythology leaves room for imagination to wander.
May the elves of Álfheim remind us that wonder does not always need to be captured or completely understood. Some mysteries are beautiful precisely because they remain beyond our reach—like a distant song among the trees, heard for only a moment before the evening grows quiet again.
Thank you for listening.

Lyrics
Beyond the fields of mortal sight
Where dawn stays pale and long
Álfheim glows beneath the branches
Bright with hidden song
Silver leaves move without wind
Clear streams shine like glass
And slender figures cross the hills
Too swift for eyes to catch
Light through mist
Footsteps gone
Something watched
Then moved beyond
Elves of Álfheim
Bright and fair
Moonlight woven
Through their hair
Keepers of the quiet places
Hidden paths
And secret graces
Where the mortal
World grows thin
Silver voices
Call within
Elves of Álfheim
Softly shine
Just beyond
The edge of time
Freyr was given Álfheim
In the morning of his youth
And under him the fields grew green
With beauty old and true
No iron tower scarred the hills
No smoke obscured the sky
Only halls of living wood
And stars reflected high
Leaf and river
Root and stone
Every path
Feels half unknown
Elves of Álfheim
Bright and fair
Moonlight woven
Through their hair
Keepers of the quiet places
Hidden paths
And secret graces
Where the mortal
World grows thin
Silver voices
Call within
Elves of Álfheim
Softly shine
Just beyond
The edge of time
Some say light itself obeys them
Some say beauty bears their mark
Some have glimpsed them near the forest
At the borderland of dark
But those who wander seeking wonder
May return with little proof
Only pollen on their clothing
And strange music in the dusk
Do not chase
What does not call
Do not force
The hidden wall
Some doors open
Only once
Under stars
And summer dusk
And if you hear
A distant song
Where no human
Voice belongs
Stand in silence
Let it be
Not all wonders
Come to be seen
Elves of Álfheim
Bright and fair
Silver fire
In the air
Keepers of the quiet places
Ancient light
And hidden graces
Where the mortal
World grows thin
Another realm
May breathe within
Elves of Álfheim
Softly shine
Just beyond
The edge of time
One pale light
Between the trees
Then only leaves
And evening breeze
