🇬🇷 Celebrating 120 years of «Odontotos» Rack Railway (05.11.16)

http://www.odontotos.com/index-en.htm The construction contract of the Greek narrow gauge (750 mm) Diakopton - Kalavryta RackRailway (ΔΚ) in 1989 provided also for the purchase of three steam locomotives. These were constructed in 1891 by the French “Anciens Établissements Cail” in Paris, arrived in 1895 and officially started regular service on Mar. 10 th 1896. They were type Czz1’n4t (0-6-2RT) saturated steam tank locomotives of 157 HP, with 4 cylinders, 2 external for the three coupled driving axles and two internal to drive the pinion gear of the Abt system. They were given the numbering ΔΚ 1 – 3 (renumbered later as 8.001 – 8003). SPAP (the operator of the line) purchased one more loco of the same type again from Cail in 1899, numbered ΔΚ 4 (later 8.004). The rest ΔΚ steamers remain today as static exhibits. The ΔΚ 4 (8.004) is in the Athens Railway Museum. All the rest are exhibited at Diakopto Station. ΔΚ 1 (8.001), due to the tireless efforts ofthe veteran railwayman N. Tagaroulias, is been transferred from Kalavryta to Piraeus to be overhauled again and return to service counting 120 years.
