Israel has launched a major airstrike in Gaza targeting senior Hamas commander Mohammad Awda, who was reportedly one of the key masterminds behind the October 7, 2023 attacks. According to Israeli military sources, Awda had recently become the new head of Hamas’ military wing after the reported killing of former Al-Qassam Brigades leader Izzuddin Al-Haddad. The strike reportedly targeted a residential building in Gaza City’s Rimal area where Mohammad Awda was believed to be located. Israeli officials claim Awda previously headed Hamas intelligence operations and played a crucial role in gathering information about weaknesses in Israel’s border defense systems before the October 7 attack that shocked the world.
