David Joseph | Organ Symphony | Score Video

Commissioned by the Adelaide Chamber Orchestra for the new organ at Adelaide Town Hall in 1989, David Joseph’s Symphony for Organ and Strings is a large-scale work for organ soloist and string ensemble. Following a brief introduction, the work unfolds in two parts. The first is built as a set of variations on an extended dialogue between soloist and orchestra. In this premiere performance, the section presents the statement and two variants rather than the originally intended four. The second part moves into a more abstract exploration of texture. This live recording was made at Adelaide Town Hall and features Melville Waters as organ soloist with the Adelaide Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Graeme Abbott.
