Jordan Lee opened The Public Pet, an urban boutique pet supply store on Waiʻalae Ave specializing in organic, holistic, and locally sourced items for dogs and cats, and quickly discovered how eclectic and unique the Kaimukī neighborhood is. In 2017, what began as a slogan, an Instagram account, and a personal passion project became Keep It Kaimukī — a movement dedicated to highlighting and connecting the neighborhood's network of businesses to build a stronger, more unified community. Today, Keep It Kaimukī hosts the annual "Keep It Kaimukī Saturday," a free, family-friendly kickoff to the holiday shopping season featuring exclusive one-day discounts across the neighborhood. Andrew Mau is a furniture designer turned shop owner and floral enthusiast behind ISLANDBOY-SHOP, a curated retailer of "good things to make your everyday life more enjoyable," tucked into the Kaimukī neighborhood. The shop is known for its eclectic collection — customized cards and stationery, apothecary items, home essentials, and luxury leather goods, including seasonal pieces from longtime collaborator Lindquist Objects. ISLANDBOY-SHOP prioritizes small-batch artists and intentionally crafted goods, carrying local brands like Tofu Skin and Salty Girl Jewelry alongside global brands found exclusively in Honolulu at ISLANDBOY. Florals and lei are central to the shop experience — Andrew and his team craft lei from flowers grown and picked by family and neighbors, including their signature "confetti" lei, honoring Hawaiʻi's gift-giving traditions with a modern twist. -- Founded in 2000 at the Shidler College of Business, the Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship (PACE) is the home for a set of experiential entrepreneurship programs at the University of Hawaii (UH). The Center’s 20+ programs offer mentorship, training, and resources to all UH students and faculty, and are designed to encourage entrepreneurial thinking across disciplines and inspire entrepreneurs to move their ideas from conceptualization to commercialization.
