Korean War Documentary on the last summer of the Korean War, 1953: one month on a hilltop outpost line, told night by night. This is what life on the outpost was actually like for the men who held these hills. 📍 In the last two years of the war, the fighting in Korea came down to small hills in front of the main line of resistance, each one reached by a single path that Chinese artillery had long since registered. The relief came up at night and went down at night. By day nothing moved. By night the wire parties crawled out, the listening post went forward with a telephone, and the whole hill waited. Water, food, ammunition and mail all came up on somebody's back, very often on the wooden A-frame pack boards of the Korean Service Corps porters. Then the July monsoon came, and the hill wore down. And over all of it hung the Army's rotation system: four points for every month on the line, thirty-six points and you went home. The soldier in this film is not one man. He is drawn from the letters, unit records and reports of the men who held these hills, and the story ends with the armistice of the twenty-seventh of July, 1953. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 00:00 Life on the Outpost 01:09 Going Up the Hill 03:47 Nothing Moves in Daylight 06:34 Everything Came Up on Someone's Back 09:00 The Night on the Outpost 13:00 The Hill Wears Down 14:40 Thirty-Six Points 16:33 Coming Down - - 📚 Every story on The Outpost War is told with respect for the men who fought in Korea.
