The Steam & Diesel Era Recreated! | WSR Diesels at 65

What happens when a railway turns the clock back to the days when steam and diesel worked side-by-side? I spent three days at the West Somerset Railway’s Diesels at 65, celebrating 65 years since diesel traction began making its mark on Britain’s railways. Across the weekend there was an incredible variety of traction in action, from classic diesel hydraulics and diesel-electrics to steam — recreating a fascinating period when the old and new generations of British railway motive power could be seen sharing the same railway. Across the three days, we travel across the WSR, experience the event from both lineside and on board, visit locations including Stogumber and Norton Fitzwarren, and enjoy everything from passing trains and station scenes to some wonderfully atmospheric movements around the Norton Fitzwarren triangle. And, of course, it wouldn't be a heritage railway gala without the weather occasionally having ideas of its own… 🌧️😂 With Hymeks, Class 33s, D4107, steam locomotive 9351 and plenty more appearing across the three days, Diesels at 65 offered far more than simply watching trains go past.
