Story time starts at 10:30 a.m. and finishes at 1 p.m. Ten, eleven, twelve, one - is that three hours? No! A little half hop, then whole hops along the hour line: two and a half hours. WHAT THIS TEACHES Elapsed time with half hours, across noon. The hour line now has a mark at every half hour. When a trip starts at half past, take a HALF HOP to the o'clock first, then whole hops; when it ends at half past, finish with a half hop. Then add them up (10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. is 1/2 + 2 = 2 1/2 hours). Two half hours make one whole hour (11:30 to 12:30 is one hour). Also: when does it finish? (start time plus how long), spotting Pip's counting mistakes, and one long day, 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. WHO IT IS FOR 6 and 7 year olds - first grade and second grade, Year 1 and Year 2 - who can read o'clock and half past and know a.m. and p.m. There is a real pause after every question so your child can answer out loud. Afterwards, ask 'what time did we leave, and what time did we get home?' and hop it together. More on the same clock: o'clock, half past, quarter past and to, five minutes, how long until, a.m. and p.m., and elapsed time across noon are in the Maths playlist.
