Sgraffito pottery tutorial | Ceramic engobe & underglaze technique

In this video, I decorate a handmade pottery dish with a hand drawn illustration using the sgraffito technique. I first make a black ceramic engobe, apply it to the surface, and then scratch away parts of the engobe to reveal the clay underneath and create the illustration. Black Engobe Recipe: 60 g dried clay 28 g frit 28 g black ceramic stain A little CMC Water as needed The mixture is passed through a 100-mesh sieve for a smooth finish. Sgraffito is a ceramic surface decoration technique similar to some underglaze decoration methods, allowing you to create illustrations, drawings, and patterns by scratching through a layer of engobe.
