Horn setting: Horn zone. Signal on the left: A clamp-style base and 3 pairs of WCH 12x20" lights with Harmon Fading LEDs. Signal on the right: A clamp-style base, 3 pairs of WCH 12x20" lights with Harmon Fading LEDs and a WCH electronic bell. On November 10th, 2024, I decided to do some railfanning in the eastern Fraser Valley and the lower Fraser Canyon. I managed to chase CN C310 from Agassiz to Squeah. Here is the third crossing I filmed during that chase, with me having 2 minutes to spare after I arrived before the crossing activated, and CN C310 came through with an ET44AC in the lead, an SD75I trailing, an ex-Citirail ES44AC trailing, and an ET44AC working as mid-DPU. This crossing is a pretty nice one, featuring a pair of classic but modernized gateless signals dating back to the mid-20th century. Originally, the signals featured GRS XC 8” incandescent lights and either a Griswold mechanical bell or a US&S Teardrop bell. In the 1990s, the original bell was replaced with a WCH mechanical bell. In the early 2010s, the WCH mechanical bell was replaced with a GS Type 2 E-Bell. In 2012, the original GRS XC 8” incandescent lights were replaced with the current WCH 12x20” Harmon Fading LED lights. Finally between 2014 and 2018, the GS Type 2 E-Bell was replaced with the current WCH E-Bell. Overall, it is quite nice seeing these rusty old gateless signals still stand, especially since they’re likely one of the oldest mast signals still standing on the line.
