There is one place in Mahmutlar where you can hear different languages, meet people from all over Europe, and still have everyone looking for exactly the same thing: the freshest food at the best price. 🍇🌿🍅
Come along for a Saturday stroll through the Mahmutlar Bazaar in Alanya, one of the favorite places for foreigners living in the area to buy their fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs.
Mahmutlar has a large international community, and the Saturday Bazaar reflects that perfectly. You'll see many Russian, Ukrainian and German residents doing their weekly shopping, alongside Turkish locals and visitors — all wandering between the same colorful rows of market stalls.
And there is plenty to choose from.
Right now, the market is overflowing with bananas, grapes, apples, figs, avocados, pears, grapes, honey melons, peaches, nectarines, plums, mangoes, watermelons, prickly pears, dragon fruit, strawberries, guava, tomatoes and fresh beans.
The amount of fresh produce is impressive, but what really catches your attention are the prices.
They are incredibly low.
You can see enormous piles of fruit and vegetables, pick exactly what you want and fill your bags without spending anything close to what you might expect to pay in Europe or the United States. 🍉🥑🍓
And just when you think you're looking at the last of the summer produce, autumn starts making an appearance.
The first pomegranates, lemons, limes, persimmons, mandarins, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, pumpkins and new walnuts have arrived.
It's a wonderful time to walk through the market because two seasons are meeting at the same stalls.
And then there is the herb section.
This is where things get really interesting.
You'll find an enormous variety of herbs grown by local farmers as well as wild varieties collected from the mountains around Alanya.
Peppermint, rosemary, parsley, dill, cilantro, green basil, red basil, Thai basil and many more.
And the bunches aren't small.
For just 20–25 TL, you can often get a huge bunch of fresh herbs — something that can feel almost unbelievable if you're used to supermarket prices in Europe or the US. 🌿
But perhaps the nicest thing about this market is the atmosphere.
People who have made Mahmutlar their home come here week after week. Turkish families, German residents, Ukrainian residents, Russian residents and people from many other countries all meet in the same place, choosing fruit, chatting with vendors and filling their shopping bags.
It feels less like a tourist attraction and more like real everyday life in one of Alanya's most international neighborhoods.
So come and take a Saturday morning walk through the Mahmutlar Bazaar with us.
See what's in season, discover what's just arrived, enjoy the colors and aromas — and find out why so many people living in Alanya keep coming back here for their weekly fresh produce. ❤️🌴
