ತಾಯಿ ಕಡೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಕರಿಗೆ ತರ್ಪಣ | Tarpana to Mother's relatives - Pitrupaksh Part 10-Ep2218 06-Oct-2026

Sairam, On the 10th day of Mahalaya Amavasya, one has to do pinda pradana or give tarpana to maternal ancestors and relatives. If not performed, then: 1. they may put a court case for property, give police complaints, spread false news etc.. To get rid of all pitru shaapa and doshas and the runa/debts of these family members, one has to do pinda pradaana and tarpana on the 10th day of pitrupaksha to ancestors and relatives of one's mother who have expired. Grahana/eclipse days, start days of Uttarayana/Dakshinayana, pitrupaksha days and Sankranti Where to perform? 1. Banks of the rivers. 2. Nearby Temple premises. 3. Holy places 4. Outside the house in front of Tulasi plant 5. Goshala (Cow shed) 6. Rameshwaram, Gokarna, Hampi etc Where not to perform? 1. At home - because one should not invite back dead persons to the home. What is pinda? A rice ball mixed with black sesame which i assumed to be the form of dead ancestors (like Gods taking form of kalasha etc) What is tarpana? Mix milk and water, hold black sesame in hand and leaving everything to the ground through the thumb holding the shikara mudra. (like archana and Arghya for God). The items should be offered thrice When to perform? 1. Surya Grahana day - before mid period of total eclipse duration. 2. Chandra Grahana day - After mid period 3. Sankranti day - when Sun is in South direction between 12pm to 1pm. Note: Ladies can also perform the pinda pradhana/tarpana. Whom to offer? On the 10th day of pitru paksha, it should be done for mother's relatives(pitaram-father/pitamaham-grandfather/prapitamaham-great grandfather,mataram-mother,matamaheem-mother's mother, pramatamaheem) who have expired. Note: The pinda pradhana and tarpana should never be performed for persons who are alive. If done, such a person will become crocodile in next birth How to perform? 1. First remember and tell the name of the person, gothra and invite them with the right addressing. for father's family or men/boys aditya roopam for same gothra. For girls/sisters/ladies' family (in this case) - vasu roopam - different gothra for relatives and friends - rudra roopam - nuetral gothra For ladies/girls who died when her husband was alive is addressed as DEVI - devidaam. For anyone who died after the husband (vidhawa) is addressed as KAVI - kavidaam recite tarpayaami tarpayaami tarpayaami Note: The tarpana should be offered with the sacred thread (janivara) crossing from left to right for those who wear it. And it should be given with a pavitra worn on ring finger. Other way to offer tarpana Perform the whole process with wet clothes and squeeze the tower/panche to drop 2-3 water droplets to ground and that gives tarpana to the whole gothra/clan. OR if one wears sacred thread, the droplets should fall on the ground. Note: For those who do not know the gothra, then Kashyapa should be used. How to clear the things offered? 1. Should be left in flowing river. 2. If coins are offered during tarpana, it should be given to temples. 3. Feed to cows or crows or birds. Note: If one misses this to do on this day, the same procedure can be done on the last day of pitru paksha which is mahalaya amavasya Thanks..Sairam
