Our very first day in Kunming took us straight to the charming ancient fishing village of Haiyan (海晏村), nestled on the eastern shores of the stunning Dianchi Lake. We spent the afternoon strolling along the peaceful lakeside paths, soaking in the fresh air, the gentle breeze, and those wide-open views of the water framed by distant hills. The village itself feels like a step back in time quiet stone alleys, traditional Yunnan-style houses with their distinctive architecture, and that authentic local atmosphere that’s hard to find in bigger cities. As the day wound down, we treated ourselves to a delicious dinner of local specialties, then just sat and admired the natural beauty all around us the soft light on the lake, the quiet rhythm of village life, and the rich cultural heritage that still thrives here.
