The Nihonbashi-Kyobashi Festival is an annual autumn festival held in the Nihonbashi and Kyobashi areas of Chuo Ward, Tokyo. It is organized by the Nihonbashi-Kyobashi Festival Executive Committee, which comprises the Tokyo Chuo-dori Association and the Muromachi-dori Association. During the Edo period (1603–1868), Nihonbashi flourished as the starting point of five major roads connecting Edo (present-day Tokyo) with other parts of Japan. It developed into an important center of transportation and commerce, attracting people, goods and cultural influences from across the country. Against this historical background, the festival features local traditions and cultural events from throughout Japan. The festival's origins date back to 1972, when a parade featuring a marching band, mascot characters and a procession of feudal lords was held to commemorate the completion of a national road. The parade was well received, and the first official Nihonbashi-Kyobashi Festival was held the following year, in 1973. The 2026 festival is the 53rd edition. The festival's main event is the Oedo Kakki Parade, a large-scale procession featuring approximately 2,000 participants. It takes place along Chuo-dori Avenue, from Kyobashi 3-chome to Nihonbashi Muromachi 3-chome. The parade consists of two parts: Part 1, the Opening Parade, featuring local groups from Nihonbashi and Kyobashi, as well as organizations associated with government and public institutions; and Part 2, the Shokoku Orai Parade, featuring traditional festivals and performing arts from across Japan. Part 1, the Opening Parade, features police, traffic safety and crime prevention organizations, local groups and marching bands. It also includes the Oedo Hanten Parade, in which members of local businesses and neighborhood associations march wearing traditional hanten coats, and an Avengers parade held in celebration of the film Avengers: Doomsday.
