WHAT’S THAT SMELL? | The Aroma of Christ and Extravagant Worship (John 12:1–8) What does your life “smell” like to the people around you? Scripture says that followers of Jesus carry the aroma of Christ—and just like a powerful fragrance, the presence of Christ in our lives can produce very different reactions. In John 12, Jesus returns to Bethany just days before the Passover and the cross. While Lazarus reclines at the table, Mary pours an incredibly expensive perfume on Jesus’ feet in an extravagant act of worship. The fragrance fills the entire house, but Mary’s devotion also reveals a striking contrast: Mary sees Jesus as worthy of everything, while Judas sees her worship as a waste. As Jesus prepares to give His life for the world, Mary’s sacrifice challenges us to consider the value we place on Christ. When we spend time with Jesus, our lives should increasingly reflect Him—how we speak, how we live, how we serve, and how we steward what God has given us. The question is not simply whether we claim to follow Jesus, but whether others can experience the aroma of Christ through us. 📖 Main Passage: John 12:1–8 (ESV) 🔎 Key Themes: The aroma of Christ, worship, Mary anointing Jesus, Judas Iscariot, generosity, stewardship, sacrifice, the death of Jesus ✝️ Big Idea: Jesus is worthy of extravagant worship, and as we spend our lives with Him, we should increasingly carry the aroma of Christ into the world around us. 👉 Connect with Us Website: https://www.bryantstreetbaptist.com/ #John12 #AromaOfChrist #Worship #MaryAndJesus #FollowingJesus #ChristianSermon #BibleTeaching #GospelOfJohn #JesusChrist #BryantStreetBaptistChurch
