Our First River Cruise Budapest to Vilshofen

And that's a wrap on our first ever river cruise! In this final video of our 2025 Danube adventure, we look back at our journey with Avalon Waterways from Budapest to Vilshofen. For us, river cruising was a completely new experience. We've travelled extensively around Europe in our motorhome, but this was something very different — unpack once, sit back and enjoy the scenery while the ship takes you from one destination to the next. During the cruise we visited some fantastic places, including Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, Dürnstein and Linz, as well as travelling through the beautiful Wachau Valley. Some places we had plenty of time to explore, while others left us thinking that we really needed to come back for a longer visit. So, after our first experience, would we do another river cruise? Well... we did! In fact, we booked another cruise from Amsterdam to Luxembourg. But that trip turned out rather differently, with historically low river levels meaning we couldn't sail from Amsterdam and were instead taken by coach from Amsterdam to Koblenz.
