Ube has become a global food sensation. But behind every ube dessert, drink, and product is a crop that must be planted, grown, harvested, and supplied.
As demand continues to grow, an important question emerges:
Can we grow enough ube and grow it in a way that also benefits the land and the communities who depend on it?
At Sulu Garden Foundation, we are exploring these possibilities through ube cultivation and our Project Sibukaw agroforestry initiative in Miag-ao, Iloilo.
By integrating ube with Sibukaw and other crops, we are exploring a diversified food-forest approach that connects food production, biodiversity, ecosystem restoration, cultural heritage, and community livelihoods.
This is still the beginning.
From planting materials to the fields, from cultivation to value-added products, and from individual crops to a larger food forest—the journey is about discovering how agriculture and restoration can grow together.
🌱 The future of ube isn't just about how much we can grow.
It's about how we choose to grow it.
