For awhile, I had been itching to try out some new railfanning locations in Florida, and on the 28th of June, me and a friend did just that, as we made the trek to the Florida Railroad Museum. The museum operates 6.5 miles of track between their main depot in Parrish, and Willow, where the museum's maintenance facilities are. Initially, the trip didn't go to plan. We arrived too late to watch the departure of the 11:00 train, and found out there wasn't another excursion that day. However, we quickly pivoted, as we managed to catch the return run from Willow, lead by the 8330, the Museum's resident GP10. However, things got really interesting when Florida Gulf Coast #1835, a GP7L, was fired up to push the 8330 and her consist back to Willow in a deadhead run, with the locomotives running nose-to-nose. While it wasn't initially what we had planned, this short trip ended up being leagues better than we had anticipated, and I couldn't be more thankful for that. The volunteer force were also incredibly friendly. It was evident that they cared about their operation, and I'm looking forward to making another visit in the not too distant future! So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the sights and sounds of vintage diesel power at the Florida Railroad Museum!
