America's most shocking flood moments, part 3: in the last two weeks of October and early November 2026, record floods hit the United States from Florida to the desert Southwest. Grant-Valkaria and Malabar, Florida recorded more than 24 inches of rain, Melbourne set an all-time one-day record of 11.51 inches, the Toccoa and Ocoee River rose 16 feet in about 12 hours to a record crest at McCaysville and Copperhill, and 15 river gauges set new all-time flood records in Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico. We count down 11 places: Palm Bay, Florida; Copperhill, Tennessee and McCaysville, Georgia; Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon, Arizona; Farmington and Shiprock, New Mexico on the San Juan River; Pagosa Springs and Durango, Colorado; Winslow, Arizona and the Little Colorado River levee; Flagstaff and the Salt River through Phoenix; Cocoa and Arcadia, Florida on the St. Johns and Peace River; Pearl River County, Mississippi; Kenner and Metairie, Louisiana; and Henderson, Nevada. Helicopters pulled people off rooftops, swift-water teams made hundreds of rescues, propane tanks floated under bridges, highways and bridges were torn apart, Winslow's levee held just short of Interstate 40, and states of emergency were declared in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Arizona and New Mexico. In this video, we examine every one of these record floods, the rescues and the damage, why they happened at the same time, how much water Lake Powell gained, and the atmospheric river that may be next for the West Coast. A strong El Nino pattern and an active southern jet stream steered moisture-loaded storms and Pineapple Express plumes over the Southwest and the Gulf Coast, and repeated rounds of heavy rain on already saturated ground turned normal storms into record floods. Daily Weather Report covers natural disasters and extreme weather events across the United States as they develop, using sourced reporting and avoiding unsupported speculation.
