Horten Hx 2 : GERMANY'S Strange FLYING WING!

The Horten HX-2 is a radical German two-seat flying wing that proves an aircraft doesn’t need a conventional fuselage or tail. First flown in 2018, its lightweight composite design and 100-horsepower Rotax 912 iS achieved around 124 mph while demonstrating remarkable fuel efficiency. Inspired by Reimar Horten’s decades of flying-wing research, the HX-2 uses elevons, wing geometry and specialised controls instead of traditional tail surfaces. Horten planned to develop the concept into the faster, 160-horsepower NG2 production aircraft. However, certification and development required substantial investment. Funding never materialised, and in 2025 Horten placed the entire programme up for sale.
