🇲🇼 Temwa Chawinga — World-Class Superstar Temwa Chawinga is one of the most remarkable footballers Malawi has ever produced. Born in Rumphi, northern Malawi, she began her journey on local football pitches before breaking through internationally alongside her sister, Tabitha Chawinga. Her professional journey took her to Sweden, where she played for Kvarnsvedens IK and scored an incredible 55 goals in 57 appearances. She then moved to China, joining Wuhan Jianghan University, where she continued her extraordinary scoring record, helping the club win four consecutive Chinese Women's Super League titles. From 2020–23, she scored 84 goals in 84 appearances according to Kansas City Current's career profile. In 2023, Temwa produced a phenomenal year, scoring 51 goals for Wuhan and finishing as the world's leading scorer across all competitions. She also captained Malawi at the 2023 COSAFA Women's Championship, winning both the Golden Boot and Golden Ball after scoring nine goals. Then came her breakthrough onto the biggest stage. In 2024, Temwa joined the Kansas City Current in the NWSL. She immediately rewrote the record books, scoring 20 goals in her debut season—a new NWSL single-season record—and becoming the first African-born player to win the league's Golden Boot. She was also named NWSL MVP. And she didn't stop there. In 2025, Temwa again won the NWSL Golden Boot and MVP, becoming the first player in league history to win MVP in consecutive seasons. She also helped Kansas City win the 2025 NWSL Shield. 🌍 A historic chapter with the Scorchers Temwa returned to the Malawi national team for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations and played a central role in a historic Scorchers campaign. Malawi reached the WAFCON final and, more importantly, qualified for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup for the first time in the nation's history. Temwa finished the tournament with five goals and two assists, winning the WAFCON Golden Boot and earning a place in the Best XI. Her story is bigger than goals and trophies. From the dusty pitches of Rumphi to the biggest stages of world football, Temwa Chawinga has shown what happens when talent meets courage, sacrifice and relentless determination. She is not just a Scorchers striker. She is a symbol of Malawi's football revolution—and an inspiration to the next generation of African girls who dare to dream. 🇲🇼🔥⚽ #malawi #malawifootball #africafootball #africa #womenfootball #futbol #africanwomen #soccer #worldcup
