Tabitha TC11 Chawinga: Scorchers Captain fantastic?

Tabitha Chawinga’s journey is a powerful story of determination, sacrifice and a dream that carried a young girl from northern Malawi to the biggest stages in women’s football. Born on 22 May 1996 in Rumphi, Malawi, Tabitha developed her passion for football at a young age. Despite facing social barriers and discouragement, she refused to abandon her dream. As a youngster, she played football with boys, sometimes using homemade balls fashioned from plastic and paper. Her talent and determination would eventually change the course of her life. Her professional journey began in Sweden in 2014 with Krokom/Dvärsätts IF, where she made an immediate impact by scoring 39 goals in just 18 matches. She later joined Kvarnsvedens IK, becoming one of Sweden’s most prolific forwards and finishing as the Swedish top-flight’s leading scorer in 2017 with 26 goals. Tabitha continued her rise in China, winning league titles, Golden Boots and individual awards. In 2022–23, she moved to Inter Milan on loan and scored 23 goals in Italy’s top division, earning the Serie A Golden Boot. She then joined Paris Saint-Germain, where her outstanding performances earned her the 2023–24 D1 Arkema Player of the Year award. In 2024, she joined French giants Olympique Lyonnais, continuing to compete at the highest level of European women’s football and adding major honours to her growing collection. However, Tabitha’s greatest impact extends beyond club football. As captain of Malawi’s national women’s team, the Malawi Scorchers, she helped inspire a historic campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Malawi reached its first-ever WAFCON final and secured qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Alongside her sister, Temwa Chawinga, Tabitha helped put Malawian women’s football on the global map. Tabitha Chawinga is more than a football star; she is a symbol of hope and perseverance. From humble beginnings in Rumphi to international greatness, her journey proves that where you start does not determine how far you can go. #WorldFootball #MalawiFootball #womenfootball #malawi #WAFCON2026 #olympicgames
