Swarm Traps Part 2 - Building a Better Trap

The only change I've made to the plans linked above was to add the piece of moulding above the entrance. The purpose of the piece of trim is to keep water away from the entrance. I've made 5 of these swarm traps for this year and it cost me $100 out of pocket. $43 - 1 sheet 3/4" plywood sheathing $35 - 1 sheet 1/4" plywood sheathing $22 - 14" x 10' painted flashing Materials I had on hand: exterior paint, 20 1.25" deck screws, 0.75" 18 gauge nails (nail gun), trim board, scrap wood This design meets all of the criteria that scout bees are looking for, 40ish liters, 2 square inch opening, and weathertight. It's also lightweight at 18 lbs with frames. The weight, along with its shape means that it's easy to lug up a ladder. It doesn't require a platform or hanger, it can be attached to a tree with a ratchet strap. Before these are installed I'll bait the boxes with a swarm lure and rub lemongrass oil around the entrance. In my area (Iowa, US) the busiest swarm months are May and June.
