Packrafting with Your Dog | Packrafting Essentials Ep. 7

Packrafting with your dog starts with helping them feel comfortable around the boat and water. Join me and Marley as I share practical tips for introducing your four-legged friend to packrafting. Welcome to Episode 7 of Vildmark’s Packrafting Essentials—a series of straightforward lessons to help you prepare for your own packrafting adventures. For me, there’s nothing quite like sharing time outdoors with Marley. In this episode, I explain how to build your dog’s confidence gradually, starting with practice on dry land before heading onto the water. We cover: • Introducing your dog to the packraft in the garden. • Practising getting in and out on dry land. • Helping your dog become familiar with the water. • Choosing a good-quality, properly fitted dog buoyancy aid. • Taking your time and keeping the experience positive. Every dog is different. Go at your dog’s pace, keep early outings short and choose calm, sheltered conditions. Never force a reluctant dog into the boat. Do you take your dog paddling? Tell me about your adventures and what has worked for you in the comments.
