Fluke (summer flounder) were biting on this Labor Day kayak fishing trip!
The morning bite was tough, with gusting winds making it difficult to hold a drift line at Transport Rock and the Bluefish Shoal Bell Buoy 36 near Rye Beach, NY. But in the afternoon, the action completely turned around at Great Captain Island, CT, and the bite was ON!
Watch as I set out on the Salty Slayer (Native Slayer Propel Max 12.5) for a full day of kayak fishing in western Long Island Sound. I worked my way to the West Reef Buoy 2 at Great Captain Island and over to the leeward side of the Island, where conditions were ideal to drift the beachfront while jigging a hi-lo teaser rig.
And just in case you were wondering: the 19-inch "short" fluke curse made an appearance, but I bounced back and landed a solid 19.75-inch keeper!
