48x48 spinach exercise

Fun process creating one of my 48x48 pieces. Simple process really — drawing, painting, scraping, layering, repeating 😄 In theory it sounds simple, but there are actually thousands of tiny decisions happening along the way. This color or that color. Keep this shape or cover it. Push the contrast or soften it. Leave the texture or scrape it away. Trust the mark or paint over it completely. A lot of abstract painting for me is learning how to make decisions without freezing up. Responding to what’s in front of me instead of trying to control every outcome perfectly. Sometimes the painting gets better after covering the exact part I was trying to protect. Sometimes the “mistake” becomes the most alive part of the piece later. The process is simple. The sensitivity and trust built through repetition is the harder part.
