In June 323 BC Alexander lay dying of a fever in Babylon, thirty-two years old, king of most of the world his people knew. This first part goes back to the beginning: the small, rough kingdom of Macedon, his father Philip and his mother Olympias, the black horse Bucephalas, Aristotle at Mieza, the battle of Chaeronea, Philip's murder in the theatre at Aegae, the march to the Danube and the destruction of Thebes, the crossing to Asia and the visit to Troy, the Granicus, the Gordian knot, Issus and the family of Darius, the siege of Tyre, Gaza, Egypt, the founding of Alexandria and the oracle of Ammon at Siwa.
This is part 1 of 2; part 2 follows on this channel.
