Yaesu FTX-1 & ATAS 120A Tuned On 20m - 2 kHz QRM Buster Filter Test Here is a short video demo of my special 2 kHz brickwall filter Width, Notch and Contour memory channels I reserve on each band to quickly address the infamous 2+ kHz "eee eeee ee eeeee" you get on crowded band conditions. Not the best DX day on 20m, so I had to search for two stations only 2k away. This is using my FTX-1 Optima on my ATAS-120A in my 2019 Honda Insight. I'm parked in one of my "zero man-made noise" parks in Central Delaware. It starts with a station on 14.260 MHz getting splattered on with my normal 2700 Hz filter. As I fumble around trying to remember how to get into Memory Tune (MT), and switch to AMP 1...then get back on 14.260, I finally show how good the filtering is to operate in a 2000 Hz (2 kHz) spacing using the Notch Filter set to 2020 Hz Wide, Contour set to 2150, Narrow Width (set in the menu) fixed at 1650 Hz and a Shift at -400 Hz. All this stored so I only have to recall the "Narrow Memory Channel" to have the settings already dialed in. WWV was used to ensure nothing above 2 kHz gets through. Maybe not the most pleasing audio without the high frequency content, but very usable with plenty of intelligibility without being muddy. It works! But you have to know the radio controls to navigate quickly. Not so easy when different Yaesu models have different ways or Memory Tune and controls. The good news is the filtering is outstanding. Crowded band conditions? No problem with this radio!
