Day 11 on the Bayou State Trail started in the beautiful and historic town of Natchitoches, Louisiana—a place that me and Brian agree would be perfect for a hiking-inspired festival someday. After a hotel breakfast, I hit the trail. The weather was kind, not too hot, and while I didn’t need a water cache, John and I had placed one the day before… or so we thought. When I got there, the cache was nowhere to be found.
Luckily, just a bit further south was the Cane River Creole National Historic Park, where I refilled water and let my feet rest. After that, I hiked on to the Pecan Orchard Campground and convenience store, where the owner generously let me hang my hammock for free. I even got to cool off in a pool before grabbing a hamburger and calling it a night.
Another great day on this new and rugged route through Louisiana!
