Ran Takahashi was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2026 AVC Men’s Volleyball Continental Championship in Fukuoka, Japan. The 25-year-old outside hitter also earned a place on the tournament’s Dream Team as one of its best outside hitters, helping Japan win the Asian title and secure a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Born in Kyoto on September 2, 2001, Takahashi stands 188 cm tall and wears No. 12 for Japan. He made his Olympic debut in Tokyo while still a university student and later played professionally in Italy for Padova and Monza. After returning to Japan to play for Suntory Sunbirds, he was listed with Bogdanka LUK Lublin in Poland on Japan’s roster for the 2026 championship. Across six matches in Fukuoka, Takahashi scored 96 points: 69 through attacks, five through blocks and 22 through aces. That was an average of 16 points per match. He was Japan’s leading scorer, ranked fourth among all players in the championship and led the entire tournament in aces. No other player recorded more than 10. His powerful serving, combined with consistent attacking, made him one of Japan’s most influential players throughout its title run. He opened with 19 points and five aces against Oman, then scored another 19 points with three aces against Bahrain. Against Australia, he produced 13 points and five aces. In the quarterfinal against India, he led the match with 14 points, including four aces, as Japan won 3–0. He followed that with 14 points, two blocks and two aces in the semifinal, where Japan swept Korea 25–13, 25–11, 25–14. Takahashi delivered again when the title was on the line. In the final on September 13, Japan defeated Iran 3–0, winning 25–21, 26–24, 25–23. Takahashi scored 17 points with 14 attack kills and three aces, converting approximately 61% of his attacks. Yuji Nishida scored 18 points for Japan in that match, while Takahashi’s MVP award recognized his performance across the full championship. Japan’s victory was its 11th Asian men’s title. It also secured Japan’s qualification place for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, while Japan, Iran and bronze medalist Korea qualified for the 2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup. After receiving the MVP award, Takahashi credited his teammates for helping him perform well. His 96 points, tournament-leading 22 aces and strong performance in the final made Fukuoka 2026 a defining championship in his career.
