In the tribal villages of Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh, a quiet change may be taking place. For generations, many families in remote Baiga tribal communities have relied on traditional healers, pandits and local faith-based practices when someone fell sick. Families of children who died during the recent health crisis told The Lallantop that they too initially sought help from traditional healers before turning to doctors or hospitals. But after a series of illnesses and deaths among children, many villagers now say they are changing the way they respond to sickness. They are increasingly choosing doctors, health camps and hospitals instead of relying only on traditional remedies.
