Carers can't check in for a new home care client until care delivery consent is on file. This guide sets one up in CareOS, from consent to care plan. It follows the care planning process a domiciliary care agency works through for every new client: consent, a home care assessment, a person-centred care plan, care plan reviews and the essential documents. Start with consent. Record care delivery consent to unblock visits, then add medication, data sharing and photography consent as needed. You choose who gave it, the review date and how it was signed: on screen, by uploaded document, by digital confirmation or by voice recording. Assessments and care plans are linked. Complete the initial needs assessment, then create a care plan from it. CareOS can draft the outcomes, risks and carer tasks from your answers with AI, as a starting point you make person-centred before you activate it. If you're learning how to write a care plan for an older client, watch how each carer task links back to an outcome or a risk. Add a specialist assessment, such as a dementia care assessment, and it gets a care plan of its own. A care plan review starts with the assessment. When needs change, review the assessment and the linked care plan shows what changed. Save the updated plan as a new version. The full history stays on the record, which helps you evidence CQC compliance: you can show an inspector how the plan has kept pace with the client. Finally, the essential documents. Mark each required item, such as a lasting power of attorney or a DNACPR, as not applicable or attach the evidence. Letters from the local authority or hospital live on the client's record, not in an inbox or a shared drive. If an inspector asked why a carer does a particular task, could you show the assessment it came from? Part of our domiciliary care training series on CareOS. Next: medication, visit templates and the care log. About CareOS: the operating system for care.
